Our skin is bombarded daily by pollution and blue light from our pc’s, smart phones and tablets. Did you know that Denver-Aurora-Lakewood area is listed as 4th in the nation for having the highest small particle pollution in the country? Particle size is measured in micrometers. The EPA records particle size pollution in 2.5 micrometers and 10 micrometers. The 2.5 micrometers particles are more dangerous to our skin and to our overall health. A strand of hair measures about 100 micrometers. That means that approximately 40 particles can fit in the width of a strand of hair. Smaller particles mean deeper penetration into our skin and into our lungs. These particles assault our skin in the form of acne, eczema, premature aging and at its worst, skin cancer.

In addition to pollution, we are seeing increasing skin damage from blue light. The average person is spending up to 10 hours per day in front of a screen and looking at their phone 46 times per day. Our skin’s antioxidants defend against these environmental stressors and neutralize them before they become harmful. When we have depleted our natural storage of antioxidants, we produce ROS (reactive oxygen species) better known as free radicals. These free radicals contribute to the degradation of our collagen and elastin leading to dark spots, wrinkles and loose skin.

Since we can’t live in a bubble, we need to protect ourselves. In addition to sunblock and a healthy diet, antioxidants for your skin are a MUST! SkinMedica® just launched an exciting new product…..LUMIVIVE™. This system is designed to provide full atmospheric protection by day and restoration at night. Results seen in as little as 2 weeks. Studies undertaken in New Delhi, India (one of the most polluted cities in the world) show dramatic differences in skin tone evenness and radiance. If you are suffering from acne, rosacea, uneven skin tone or premature aging, this product may be the right fit for you. Artistry Skin and Laser can provide a free skin consultation with customized treatments and products to fit your needs and your budget.
