What is Dermaplaning?

Dermaplaning is a very popular aesthetic procedure that exfoliates the skin while removing the peach fuzz from the face.  It is a painless procedure, much like shaving your legs.  Many women like it because it offers incredibly smooth skin, better skin product absorption and flawless makeup application.

Your skin will look soft and dewy.  It is a great procedure to remove dry, dead skin cells and can be used as a boost to many other skin treatments including laser or hydration treatments.  In addition, it is safe to do for pregnant or nursing women because there are no chemicals involved.

How does it differ from microdermabrasion?

Microdermabrasion is a skin system that extracts impurities from the skin while sanding the surface.  It does not remove peach fuzz, and the suction can potentially aggravate rosacea.  Microdermabrasion is a better choice for acneic skin as the process of suction and sanding can help remove blackheads.

When should I do a dermaplaning treatment?

Dermaplaning can be done once a month, or a few days before any event in which you want to look your best.  Therefore, it is a great treatment to do if pictures and makeup will be involved.

What is the procedure like?

Typically, the face is cleansed once or twice, and a toner applied.  Next, the provider will hold your skin taut and run a straight edge blade, held at a 45-degree angle, over your skin.  This may be relaxing or a little tickly.  This part of the procedure takes about 20 minutes.  Often, a calming or hydrating mask will be applied after to soothe and hydrate the skin.

What to expect after the treatment?

The skin will feel silky smooth and makeup will glide on easily with no caking.  Not surprisingly, this is often a Hollywood favorite for the glow it provides.  Artistry Skin and Laser in Littleton, Colorado loves providing these treatments for our clients.
